Yep, nothing new to discuss. The weekend was great. Beautiful weather.
Did anybody watch the Oscar's last night? "Crash" sure did clean house. I had never really heard much about that movie until last night. I will definitely rent it now. I am thoroughly disappointed that a rap song won Best Original Music last night. The 'song' "It's Hard Out Here for A Pimp" from the motion picture "Hustle and Flow" can hardly be thought of as a song. It's a bunch of non-talented garbage men shouting muddy-lines over top a mediocre at best vocal from some chick. The Academy Awards are a long tradition based in elegant attire and respectful awards... not a whole bunch of thugs dressed in Sean Jean sporting more bling in their teeth then on Oscar himself. The Academy Awards are no place for that genre. Yeah, you may disagree. I tell you one thing, I probably wouldn't say this at all if acceptors of the award would have at least put on something decent. I'm sorry, XXXXXXXXXL sized T-shirts should be banned at the Oscar's. Jon Stewart was a trip though, that's for sure.
That's really all I have for today. I hope everyone has a great week.

Haha, its hard out here for a pimp... i think thats why everyone was laughing so hard when it happened. Though, i didnt think that the song choices were all that good anyways. I was pleased to see Reese win, though.
I started watching crash, but turned it off cause it was no good. Maybe i didnt give it enough time, maybe it got better.... i am assuming it won best picture?
While it may not be a song in the traditional way that most think of, in its own way it is a song. Whether you like it or not is a different story.
I also dont know how you can say that they arent talented. Rapping is an art and even if you aren't a fan of it or particular artists it still should be viewed as a form of talent. Thats like someone saying they dont like a picture you took and saying Man, he isnt talented, which obviously isnt the case.
I am not a fan of Widespread, but I can admit that they are talented and gifted musicians.
For their attire and such that is inexcuseable and shouldnt have been permitted to wear that to an event like that, but they do have a place at an event like that, as long as they give the respect to the institution that they gave them.
I stand correct. Rappers are talented. No one can dispute that listening to such artists as Bone Thugz and Harmony and the Beastie Boys. I do like some rap, the two previously mentioned groups are my favorites. However, do I feel that they deserved to win? No. Not necessarily because it is rap, but because I feel they weren't the best. As far as the dress attire is concerned... you are correct, it is unacceptable to dress like that at such an event; unrespectfull...
Well, that is why it is up to the Academy to decide who wins and who doesnt, not us. They know what they are looking for. Just because we dont necessarily agree with their choices, doesnt mean that they didnt deserve to win. I thought Joaquin deserved to win for his performance, but he didnt. That doesnt mean that Philip Seymour Hoffman didnt deserve it, though (i never saw Capote). I dunno, i dont think it really matters anyways....
Eh. One of my fellow MSers was a publicist in LA for a little while, and in NY for several years. We had a conversation about this last week. These award ceremonies are just a measure of whose publicists can invite the most academy judges to the most parties hosted by the most famous of celebrities.
Granted "Final Destination 3" will never win any awards, but of all the movies that are good enough to get past a certain threshold, it's just a matter of publicity and brown nosing.
And I'm kind of against the whole institution of entertainment awards anyway. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good movie as much as the next person, but good teachers should be making half as much as the people earning those awards.
amen Dan!hahahaaaa
I love it when you give us the low-down from your publicist friend! I wish I had one- I love that stuff!
I have "it's hard out here for a pimp" on my iPod...
The oscar for best original score was just another hand out to appease that growing section of the culture.
The academy knew that if they didn't give it to them there would probably be riots b/c they would be bitching up a storm that eminem got one because he was white, but "a black rapper caint get nuttin in dis wurld".
I'm not saying rappers aren't talented. Hey, i couldn't do it. But that song absolutely BLEW!!!
Ben, the movie Crash is awesome. Hollywood hasn't put anything out worth a damn in a while, but I saw this movie last summer and it is very powerful and very good and the last good movie I saw to be honest.
It really is too bad that Joaquin and Hoffman couldn't both win. They both kicked ass.
Go Reese, Go South!
wait....what was crash about again?
Crash tackles a lot of stereotypes about EVERY race (hispanic, white, middle eastern, asian, black, blue, purple, etc.)
It is also saying how alienated we are from one another and that we will literally "crash" into one another just to get some human contact.
That's it in a nutshell w/o giving too much away.
oh yeah! i saw that movie! whoa...that got alot of awards? not good. movies like that where you really have to pay attention defeat the whole purpose of watching a movie!
you're crazy! It doesn't defeat the purpose of a movie! Art is made for many purposes. Some art is made solely for aesthetic purposes and to entertain. Other art is made to make you think and force you to go outside of your comfortable little box. There are countless perspectives to everything and getting another perspective on something is invaluable.
Those are movies i actually prefer. Watch "I Heart Huckabees" if you want to have a good time watching a movie.
Also, the rap song didn't win best score; that went to Brokeback. 3-6 mafia won for best song.
